E.M.i.M is pleased to announce the launch of its STEM program. This program will compliment our already existing enriched science program. All of the teachers from daycare through grade 6 will work together to integrate many new and exciting activities into our lessons!
STEM is an interdisciplinary and applied approach that is based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students take active, hands on approach to learning. Often, they are presented with challenges and asked to find solutions while documenting and reflecting upon their learning process.
Rather than teaching the four disciplines as separate subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning curriculum based on real-world applications.
Common STEM areas include aerospace engineering, astrophysics, astronomy, biochemistry, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, mathematical biology, nanotechnology, neurobiology, nuclear physics, physics, and robotics!
The STEM approach fits seamlessly with the Montessori Method because it promotes autonomous learning that is guided by student interest; it prepares its learners to be confident and creative problem solvers.
This program prepares the students for high school level course and piques interest in potential careers in the field of science.
Our cycle 3 students, grade 5 and 6, participate in robotics using the Lego MindStorm ev3 materials. Robotics is a highly motivating and exciting subject that integrates science, engineering, computer science and mathematics. Students will strengthen their skills while working as part of a team, and completing various projects. All students will encounter a continuous progression of challenges that will boost confidence and promote a sense of achievement.
